President's Day

These are not my photos, but Brandon and I were very surprised driving to church on Sunday because we saw three bald eagles flying overhead. They were amazing. At first, I thought "what is that huge bird flying up there?" Brandon confirmed what I thought it was; it is easy to notice their white heads from down below. And then we quickly saw two more! I have only seen one bald eagle in person and it was at a zoo somewhere. It was really neat to see them like that. I thought it was appropriate to see them the day before President's Day; a symbol of authority. I searched for some great quotes from past presidents and I didn't find anything new that really stood out to me as much as this one that I noticed on my brother Robert's Facebook page: "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have..." Thomas Jefferson. My hope this President's Day is that people will pay attention to what the government buys, negotiates, and usurps from us Americans. I have been overwhelmed by how aggressive and quick things have been going lately to put the American people farther from financial, medical, and academic independence from our government. I have enjoyed thinking about our intelligent founders who viewed the world through these words, "That government is best which governs least," Henry D. Thoreau. I am so thankful to be an American and to have the freedoms that I do; and I am thankful to the men and women in government and uniform who fight everyday to protect them. I guess the last thing I would like to add is my sincere appreciation for President Washington. I have a picture of him hanging in my room. Not a single day goes by that I don't notice it and I consider it one of the most special pictures in my house.
