In 1892, before they had the right to vote, Washington women selected the coast rhododendron as the state flower. They wanted an official flower to enter in a floral exhibit at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. Six flowers were considered, but the final decision was narrowed to clover and the "rhodie," and voting booths were set up for ladies throughout the state. When the ballots were counted, the rhododendron had been chosen as the Washington state flower.
We had so much fun yesterday because Brandon and I took Gloria to the Alderwood Mall. We both really need some new clothes, which we found! Brandon got some nice polo shirts from Banana Republic and I got some jeans (that fit!) and two tops at Ann Taylor, which was having a great sale! After we ate at The Old Spaghetti Factory. It's always been a favorite restaurant of mine and I was so impressed with how beautiful the restaurant was. Tiffany has invited us several times to eat at the location in Trolley Square for c's birthday party so we felt right at home.

When we first moved to Bellingham, I was really impressed by all the rhododendrons too. Sometimes, I really think that we live in one of the most beautiful places in America.
Congratulations on your new baby, I'm sorry I didn't know until now...but your little one is lucky to have you two as parents. And I'm so glad you live in Washington, isn't it gorgeous there?
I love those rhododendrons, but I didn't know they were Washington's state flower. I'm glad you had a fun weekend
I had no idea they were the state flower. I love them as well. We have many colors in our yard, and the purple ones are my favorites right now.
